Alright, here’s your newsletter — a little late, but honestly… the good ones usually are.
“The week of a singing wood carver soup kitchen operator.”
🎵 Singing
It was a listening week.
Monday and Wednesday I sang with the oldies — but this time, I mostly just listened. They didn’t need me to talk. And strangely… that was a relief. Sometimes presence is enough.
Tuesday I sang for the disabled community. They love melody. They rock and sway with the sound and come alive in the chorus — especially the big moments. Like in “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond — the “da da da” bit. Pure joy. No hesitation. Just full-hearted participation.
There’s something very honest about that kind of singing.
🌊 Woodcraft Adventures
Saw a business advisor this week. We talked about trust.
Yes — they probably use your data. But that’s the exchange. Quid pro quo.
He said social media isn’t optional anymore — I need to grow the followers.
He encouraged me to keep pushing the Encounter Maria Island ferry contract.
And to seriously explore expansion into Victoria and NSW.
Wednesday I did a woodcraft presentation on the beach at Kingston.
The lady came back for her wombat. She’s decided she wants one animal a week. Next week: an echidna.
An old builder stopped and talked for about half an hour. I couldn’t carve while we talked — but it felt important. He has Huon pine and might bring some for me.
You can’t carve and converse at the same time — but sometimes the conversation is the real work.
🍲 Food Not Bombs Hobart
I was at a gathering all weekend, so I left Pete — who lives under the bridge — to run the event.
For four weeks we’ve been meeting regularly. Bringing him onside.
He’s been exploring gender, and we’ve walked through that together.
We’re now officially linked with the society and have an appointment with LGBTQIA+ guides. It meant a lot to him.
And now he’s stepping up for me.
That’s mutual aid.
🍦 Unexpected Provision
Got a call from Mel from Sunday’s Mutual Aid Kitchen — someone Lisa Rime connected me with.
She donated 12 litres of Valhalla salted caramel ice cream with peanuts.
Took it to the family camp weekend — the kids loved it.
We also had boxes of cakes from Glen.
Who knew? Kids on camp love sweet food.
I told Mel who I am, and she said more food will definitely come my way — ice cream or Foodbank.
Provision flows where relationship flows.
🌐 Online & Outreach
A friend said she’d push my site — ChristiaanMcCann.com
As a result, I received a request for material aid in Hobart’s northern suburbs.
This morning at 7am I’m heading there with four boxes absolutely chock-full of fruit and vegetables — Glen delivered a super load last night.
It aligns perfectly with a first-time request from the Herdsman Cove community.
That’s about it.
Just another week — singing, carving, feeding, listening, showing up.
See you next Sunday.
(Or possibly Monday again.)
