JOURNAL: Practice Report. List of reflections of practice?

Preamble

Reflection is at the heart of professional growth. This section captures what I’ve learned through practice — the shifts in understanding, the tensions between theory and emotion, and the development of my professional identity.

Learning Through Emotion Transformation

In working with a client moving from grief to anger, I was reminded that emotional change is not about eliminating pain, but transforming it into energy for growth. Anger became a sign of vitality and protection rather than defiance. This taught me that the therapeutic process often mirrors the emotional journey itself — moving from vulnerability to strength through reflection and connection.

Balancing Empathy and Accountability

In correctional work, I’ve learned the importance of holding empathy while maintaining clear boundaries. Supporting insight requires both compassion and honesty — affirming a client’s humanity while gently naming the limits of destructive choices.
