STREETWORK: Welcome to Streetwise Supply. The Art of Mindful Redistribution.

A Journey of Giving with Integrity.

Collecting with Care

As I embark on this project, collecting and distributing discarded items in the urban environment, I’m reminded of the importance of intention and approach. My goal is to provide essential resources to those in need while avoiding the pitfalls of contextualization, which can inadvertently dehumanize the recipients.

Partners in Giving

Through partnerships with organizations like Food Not Bombs Hobart, StreetShelter, and StreetWork, I aim to distribute items in a way that respects the autonomy and dignity of individuals. I’ve witnessed well-meaning charity workers inadvertently add emotional or social context to material donations, often to justify their efforts or appease funding requirements. This can lead to a power imbalance, where the recipient’s story becomes a tool for the giver’s benefit.

The Power of Simple Giving

New shoes mean put a new kick in anyone’s step.

My approach is different. I strive to simply provide what’s needed without attachment or expectation. By doing so, I hope to subvert the dynamics of charity and create a more authentic exchange. I’m learning to let go of the need for emotional response or validation, instead focusing on the simple act of giving.

Letting Go of Expectations

We pile clothes in the self-help corner so it’s not dehumanising.

In this journey, I’ve come to realize that true kindness lies in the absence of agenda. By giving without context, I’m not only providing essential items but also acknowledging the inherent worth and agency of the individuals I’m serving.

Dignity in Giving

Join me in this exploration of mindful redistribution, as we work together to create a more compassionate and equitable community.
